"Death shall come on swift wings to him that toucheth the tomb of Pharaoh."
The Curse of the Mummy was not just another Lon Chaney Jr. movie, but rather a recent-day curse. However, whether it was either actually a true curse or just a set of very bizarre coincidences we may never know for certain.
So what exactly was this curse? The Curse of the Mummy began when many terrible events occurred after the discovery of King Tut's tomb. Legend has it that ghastly_tales_for_adults.htm who dared to open the tomb would suffer the wrath of the mummy.
It all unfolded after archeologist Howard Carter (left) discovered the tomb of King Tutankhamen in 1922. A series of very strange events took place soon after. First, his pet canary was eaten by a cobra. This was considered an ill-omen because a cobra eating a canary was a symbol of the Pharaoh's power.
Then six weeks after the tomb was entered, Carter's sponsor, Lord Carnarvon (right) died suddenly from an infected mosquito bite. Rumor has it that at the exact moment of Lord Carnavon's death, all the lights mysteriously went out in Cairo as well as his dog dropped dead! This led to quite a media frenzy.
However, was there really such a curse or was it just the fabrication of an over-zealous media? It is up to every individual to decide for himself.
To quash the nonsense of this supposed curse, Howard Carter had said:
"It has been stated in some quarters that there are actual physical dangers hidden in (Tutankhamen's) tomb - mysterious forces, called into being by some malefic power, to take vengeance on whomsoever should dare to pass its portals...All sane people should dismiss such inventions with contempt."
